A new year

So we have crossed that zero boundary and gone towards the teens. There has been a lot of discussion about what we should have been calling the previous decade. I vote for the naughts.
During the new year celebration, which was very quiet this year—we managed to remain awake till midnight, I was somehow reminded of what we used to do when I was a kid, growing up on the prairie. We didn't have many party materials, nor much of a party tradition, so we gathered all the alarm clocks from the house together, set them go off at midnight, and kind of sat there and waited.
