International Shredding day
Saturday, April 18, 2009
So my bank sends me a little flyer that offers free shredding. So I took them up on their offer and took a couple of bags that had been waiting to get shredded. They park a big truck outside the bank and you dump your bag of stuff there and watch them automatically hoist the bin into the truck. Much noise follows. I envisioned a bunch of workers inside the windowless back chopping up the stuff, hopefully not setting aside any particularly interesting documents. I was going to ask, but the operator couldn't hear me due to the noise.
Later, when I stopped by the cleaners, I saw another truck sponsored by a real-estate company doing the same thing. Same kind of truck, same noise. Presumably its interior workers had different T-shirts on.
So i propose that we make this a holiday&emdash;the first saturday after April 15 should be international shredding day. Well, maybe this is only a US holiday.
And if you are one of the workers stuck in the back of the truck, I would like a moment with you.
