Plentywood

As we enter Montana on US2, we are going to take a little detour north to Plentywood. We turn right at Culbertson which had been an agricultural center and supplied the US Cavalry with horses. These days it owes more of its economy to the Railroad.

We are going to turn right at state road 16 and go north almost 50 miles to Plentywood, the county seat of Sheridan County.

But first, on your way out of Culbertson, you might be able to get a glimpse of the Medical center off to your right on the north edge of town.

What is interesting about the history of Sheridan County is its radical past. Some think of Montana as a Red state, but like many generalizations, this does not tell the whole story. In fact, there was a very strong Socialist movement in Sheridan county in the 1920s spearheaded by Charles E "Red Flag" Taylor. So Montana's Red county means Red in the socialist sense.
