Speaking of Red-winged blackbirds

So setting aside the "barbarian" category (personally, I think there are animals in the Barbary Coast—doesn't that make them barbarians?), my favorite spot for red-wing blackbirds is at a marvelous spot right within the boundary of Lake Forest called Middlefork Farm. Another site gives it a better description.

If you walk these trails, as I have done at length, it is easy to forget you are in the heart of a suburb of the busy Chicago metropolis. So you can actually get there by of the commuter train if you don't mind walking a bit. Which is mostly what you might want to do there anyway, although the trail is very amenable to bikes, except for the boardwalk part.

And yes, you will see red-winged blackbirds and probably dozens of the other hundred species native there. Check it out, then stop by the house for some coffee and we can swap stories.
