The west half of North Dakota

But before we get there, I forgot to point out something you noticed as we flew by: Rugby . It would seem that tourists often visit there, no doubt because of the monument marking the Geographical Center of the continent. You can see the Northern Lights Tower, the International Peace Garden, which is due north of Rugby, and the Neiwoehner Bell Tower.

Now I couldn't find out if they actually play Rugby in Rugby, but they do have a Golf Course there.

Even though US2 is kind of along the top, there is another teir of counties above there. You can get them by going along State Highway 5, or US 281.

Despite not having lots of people, there is a fair amount to see there.

Then we have Towner, "less than an hour from major Business and Medical Centers". Maybe sounds bad, but just compare that to Chicago Traffic. Where, by the way, all the roads are being torn up. All of them. Any that are not, the county probably has mislaid.

Then, we are finally at Minot, home to, among other things, The Minot Air Force Base. Now we forgot to point out the Grand Forks Air Force Base, but you probably saw it as we went by.

Now, how many states do you know of that have Two Air Force bases?

Next, we come to Stanley, ND. It would appear that they have sunflowers there. We should stop and check it out.

A little later, the train track takes an angle north and goes through White Earth. It would seem that there is no White Earth there, but perhaps the town gets its name from the White Earth river thereabouts.

Then we take a jog south and hit Williston, ND. There is lots to see there, and someone has provided a Travel By GPS trail along the Lewis & Clark.

And with that, we will be leaving North Dakota for this segment of our trip.
