Equilibrium

One of my associates at work is a physicist by training—he has a Ph. D. I tried my equilibrium rant on him, and he suggests that a proton is seriously stable—approximately the lifetime of the universe. I responded saying "Good point".
Let's try the modified rant that in biological systems or planet-wide phenomenon there is no such thing as equilibrium.
